Keith’s Pies has been a fixture on Burnley Street in Richmond since 1953. The original recipes are still in use. The customers haven’t changed much either — some have been coming through the door for over 30 years, and at least a few travel interstate just to grab a tasty plain steak pie. The shop is run by Malcolm and Michelle Campbell. Malcolm started here as a pastry chef in 1986, eventually bought the business with Michelle, took a seven-year break to try other corners of the hospitality world, and then — unable to stay away — bought it back in 2014. They’ve been running it together since. These days you’ll find Michelle out front, serving coffees and chatting with regulars she’s known for decades. Malcolm’s in the back, still coming up with new menu items like the Cheeseburger Pie, because as he puts it: it’s important to stay relevant.
